Appreciation of Basic Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Techniques

Appreciation of Basic Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Techniques provides an appreciation of basic NDT methods including visual inspection, magnetic particle testing, penetrant testing, radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing and eddy current testing.

Delegates will learn to select a method of NDT for a specific material, defect type, position and weld geometry, and material sorting method.

The training covers proprietary instruments, surface NDT methods (visual inspection, magnetic particle and penetrant inspection) and internal examination NDT methods (eddy current testing, radiography and ultrasonic) for flaw detection.

70% of the course will involve practical demonstrations and hands-on experience.

Course Objectives

Delegates completing an Appreciation of Basic Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Techniques training course will be able to;

  • Appreciate available methods
  • Explain the basic principles of these methods
  • Identify advantages and disadvantages of these, both in application and defect detection ability
  • Carry out basic hands-on applications for familiarisation purposes
