OPITO Application of Insulation Systems Competence Assessment (Level 2)

Competent insulation practitioners fit insulation systems to pipework, equipment and structures, and have an understanding of appropriate thermal, acoustic, cryogenic, personal protection and passive fireproofing insulation systems.

The insulation practitioner's route to achieving OPITO training and competence certification is comprised of the following stages:

  • Initial training
  • Workplace experience
  • Competence assessment

Assessment Overview

An OPITO Application of Insulation Systems Competence Assessment (Level 2) requires delegates to demonstrate the knowledge, understanding and practical skills to install an effective insulation system.

Delegates are required to pass both a knowledge assessment and a practical assessment. The written test pass mark is 80%.


Assessment Objectives

Delegates completing an OPITO Application of Insulation Systems Competence Assessment (Level 2) will be able to; 

  • Demonstrate the required knowledge, understanding and practical skills to fulfill the role of an insulator safely and effectively

Assessment Content

An OPITO Application of Insulation Systems Competence Assessment (Level 2) includes;

  1. Contribute to health and safety and effective work activities
  2. Apply insulation to various shapes
  3. Apply cladding to various shapes and surfaces
  4. Removal and reinstatement of cladding 

Prerequisites

In order to complete an OPITO Application of Insulation Systems Competence Assessment (Level 2), delegates must have:

  • A valid and in-date OPITO Application of Insulation System) Training Level 1 certificate
  • A fully completed and valid log book, based on the OPITO Application of Insulation Systems Training Level 1 (WE) workplace experience requirements

OR

A *formal letter from the candidate’s current or previous employer stating that the candidate has been employed as a fireproofer within the last two years, AND **documented evidence of having been employed as a fireproofer over the last two years. The formal letter and documented evidence must be authenticated by the assessment centre prior to confirming the booking.

*The formal letter must include details of the employer or employer representative’s position in the company, full contact details, and be signed and dated by the employer or employer representative
