Eddy Current Inspection of Ferritic Welds

The Eddy Current non-destructive testing (NDT) method is used to inspect inside conductive materials without removing the non-conductive coatings such as paint.

Eddy Current involves observing changes in the flow of an electrical current through the material being tested. A change in the material such as a crack affects the flow of the induced current which allows the precise area affected to be determined.


Course Overview

Eddy Current Inspection of Ferritic Welds details how a technician may detect surface breaking cracks in ferritic steel welds, both uncoated or coated in up to 2mm of non-conductive coatings.

Delegates will encounter possible variables occuring during eddy current inspection such as conductivity, permeability and geometry.


Course Objectives

Delegates completing an Eddy Current Inspection of Ferritic Welds training course will be able to;

  • Evaluate the many variables encountered during eddy current inspection
  • Use impedance plane analysis to isolate surface breaking flaws
  • Write clear and concise inspection instructions and test reports
  • Meet the syllabus requirements of CSWIP/PCN level 2 (depending on the training scheme selected)

Prerequisites

In order to receive an Eddy Current Inspection of Ferritic Welds certificate, the minimum required duration of training is:

  • Level 1 - 40 hours
  • Level 2 - 40 hours (direct to level 2 - 80 hours)

The required duration of training is fulfilled by attending this training course.

In order to receive an Eddy Current Inspection of Ferritic Welds certificate, the minimum duration of work experience is:

  • Level 1 - 3 months
  • Level 2 - 9 months (direct to level 2 - 12 months)

PLEASE NOTE: The examination may be taken before or after work experience is completed, however the certificate will not be issued until proof of experience is provided. After passing the examination, a results notice is issued and you then have 24 months to complete the required work experience.
