This Armed Forces Day, we’re shining a light on our military success stories – and showing our appreciation for the Armed Forces community.

AIS Survivex is proud to be the training partner of choice for military personnel moving into wind and oil and gas.

We work hard to support those going through resettlement with their energy sector training. Our team are on hand to help you through this key part of the transition from military to civilian life – supporting you through your training journey and setting you on the pathway to your new career.

Currently serving and former military personnel have enviable transferable skills that are extremely desirable for employers across the whole of the energy sector.

Check out some of our military success stories below and hear why transitioning to the energy sector was a great move for them.

Jack Taylor
Army to Wind

Former Army Mechanic, Jack Taylor, scooped his first role as a fibre-optic installer with Correll just 4 weeks after completing the AIS Survivex ‘Military to Wind’ training programme.

Both Jack and his partner served in the Army, so when they had their first child, they decided it was best for one of them to pursue a new career to better manage family life.

“After a decade as a vehicle mechanic in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), I felt ready to move on, so it was me who opted for career change.

The wind industry is fast-growing and mechanical engineering skills are in high demand so it seemed like a great option.

AIS Survivex offers ELCAS-approved training so most of my course was paid for with funding. For the remaining cost, I took out interest-free finance with AIS Survivex, making it really affordable.”

Craig Halcomb
Army to Oil and Gas

Craig started his Army career working in the Air Corps as a signal operative after leaving school, eventually ending up in the artillery anti-aircraft division, shooting down enemy fighter planes.

He considered a career move to the oil and gas industry after the birth of his first daughter in 2013, but finally made the leap in 2022.

Craig decided to go for the Greenhand package in Newcastle, which gives you all the basic skills required for an offshore career as a roustabout in the oil and gas industry. ?

Within 7 days of completing his training, Craig secured his first job with Bilfinger on the Elgin platform!

“I have absolutely no regrets about changing careers and using AIS Survivex for all my training.

The practical elements really prepared me for my offshore job and the instructors were brilliant.

It’s clear everyone at AIS Survivex wants you to succeed and the entire team is there to offer a helping hand with everything you need.”

Chris Duffy
RAF to Ropes

Chris’ 14 years of service in the RAF took him all over the world, including Afghanistan where he served operationally within a specialist human intelligence unit.

In 2022, he left the RAF and secured a role as a salesman for English Braids. With the rope access industry being a key market for Chris, he used his resettlement funding to train for an IRATA Rope Access qualification.

“To add to my skillset and increase my knowledge of the rope access sector, I approached my learning supervisor in the air force to see what training I could access.

He recommended AIS Survivex as an approved ELCAS-training provider and I was able to use the ELCAS scheme to fund my training.

As a former military instructor, I know outstanding training and AIS Survivex certainly has it!”
