On Course to The Open: The latest AIS Survivex initiative to support military personnel.

A group of wounded, injured and sick armed forces veterans are walking, running, cycling, swimming and canoeing an incredible 1,500 km in a relay across the UK to raise funds for a golfing charity thanks to help from sponsors AIS Survivex.

The challenge is in aid of the ‘On Course Foundation’ which supports the recovery of wounded and sick military personnel and veterans through golf and careers in the golf industry. As part of the two-week relay event, veterans have visited 53 golf courses across the UK, including 13 on The Open Championship roster, finishing at the St Andrews Old Course – bringing in the flag in time for The 150th Open to start on Thursday 14th July.

AIS Survivex is supporting the veterans by funding all of the fuel needed to help them complete their gruelling journey. It is the latest initiative by AIS Survivex to support military personnel, which also includes specially designed ELCAS-funded military to energy training programmes and the Gold Plus Sponsorship of the British Forces Resettlement Service (BFRS).

One of the veterans taking part in the challenge, said:

“We are extremely grateful to AIS Survivex for sponsoring our relay challenge and would like to thank them for their incredible support.

“The game of golf offers excellent mental and physical health benefits and is a fantastic way of helping military personnel to recover and rehabilitate after injury or sickness. That’s why the work of the On Course Foundation is so important and why we are all delighted to take part in this challenge to raise much-needed funds. It’s been a tough two weeks but extremely worth it.”

Linzi Ryan, head of marketing at AIS Survivex, visited the veterans at Carnoustie golf course during the last leg of the relay on Sunday. She said:

“We are so proud to be supporting this challenge and the amazing team undertaking it. Readjusting to civilian life can be daunting for many military personnel and the work of organisations such as On Course Foundation and the BFRS can make a huge difference in helping people make the transition.”
