CALEB COMSTOCK

Caleb Comstock from Rhode Island is set to become a ‘rare’ American wind blade technician thanks to AIS Training.

Previously an outdoor adventure guide in Utah, 26-year-old Caleb was keen to find a more structured career and recognised the enormous potential of offshore wind.

In the U.S. the offshore wind industry is relatively young with only a few skilled local professionals trained to work in the sector. But huge growth is predicted and there are currently more than two-dozen projects being planned all over the country.

Caleb secured a job with leading blade maintenance service provider, GEV Wind Power, and travelled more than 3,000 miles to AIS Training’s state-of-the-art Renewable Centre of Excellence in Newcastle to complete all of the mandatory Global Wind Organisation (GWO) training he needs to work in the industry.

When he returns to America following his training, Caleb will be working on the maintenance of wind farms up to 130 metres high in several different U.S. States.

He said: “I’m really excited to start working in the wind industry. The courses at AIS Training have been top-notch and have really prepared me for working the field. Unlike other training I’ve done in the past, the instructors at AIS Training really held my attention and made the course content interesting and engaging. Every small detail was covered so you really understand health and safety practises and their importance to the role you’ll be doing. I’ve loved being in the UK and would recommend AIS Training to anyone.

"I love working in the global wind industry. It's surpassed all my expectations!"

7 months after training at AIS Training's Renewable Energy Training Centre of Excellence in North Tyneside, Caleb from Rode Island is now a wind technician for GEV Wind Power in the USA.

He said: “I love working in the global wind industry. It’s surpassed all my expectations! I’m so grateful to GEV and managing director, Daniel Boon for giving me this amazing opportunity. The courses at AIS Training were top-notch and really prepared me for working the field. Unlike other training I’ve done in the past, the instructors at AIS Training really held my attention and made the course content interesting and engaging. Every small detail was covered so you really understand health and safety practises and their importance to the role you’ll be doing.”
