Industrial training specialist, AIS Training and security and emergency response specialist, Restrata, have been approved to run oil and gas training body, OPITO’s Major Emergency Management Initial Response (MEM-IR) course. The four-day course equips people with the skills and knowledge needed to manage a major emergency and covers key areas such as command, control, communications and stress-related factors.

Professional training to manage emergency situations and incidents is critical in the global energy sector, which operates in inherently dangerous environments.

Together, AIS Training and Restrata are aiming to develop and deliver world-class incident management training for the global energy industry and achieving OPITO-approval is a major step towards this.

Gavin Taylor, commercial director at AIS Training, said: “We are delighted to receive OPITO accreditation to run MEM-IR courses, alongside our partner Restrata, which adds additional depth to our existing course portfolio to better serve our clients’ needs. Safety remains the highest priority for the energy sector and many of our clients are increasingly demanding training to improve their management of crisis situations so it’s great to be able to offer this course.

“It is a highly specialised area and that’s why we joined forces with Restrata – the world leader in incident management training. Using our combined expertise, we are now planning further courses to raise safety and security standards across the entire energy sector.”

Morgan Rees, global head of monitoring & response at Restrata, said: “At Restrata we are excited to be partnering with AIS on delivering MEM-IR courses to the oil and gas industry.

“It’s part of our continued investment in Aberdeen to serve the North Sea and global energy sector, after last year’s expansion of our incident management centre in Aberdeen.

“For us, delivering MEM training is such a core component of our focus on best in class emergency response and working with AIS makes sense. Their simulation and training technology means they are industry best practice and we are thrilled to be partnering with them.”
