The wind industry is relatively new, with the first significant developments coming in the 1990’s. Research and Development progress since then has been rapid, with wind turbines becoming more efficient and significantly bigger. Wind Turbines now reach heights of 150m+ and the blades alone can weigh 25 tonnes alone. Organisations such as Catapult ORE are leading the way in testing, research and development. Skills in these organisation are often Engineering based, Project Management or Scientific. Workers will be based mostly onshore in testing facilities such as ORE Catapult in Blyth and Glasgow. But will sometimes be required to go offshore to the wind turbine installations too.

It is worth looking at some of the job positions on different company’s websites as the skills and certificates required are many and varied depending on your skills and specialisms.
