Want to get into the fast-growing wind sector but don’t know where to start?
The wind sector in the UK is currently booming and estimates predict it will create up to 70,000 jobs over the next five years.
Industry standards can be varied and in some instances ambiguous.
For those looking to get into the sector there are a number of qualifications frequently requested by employers. Global Wind Organisation (GWO) is the main one but there may be some companies that require Renewables UK (RUK)
The first thing wind companies do before taking you on is to check that you have a Winda ID – this is an online portal that records the qualifications and data of any potential wind personnel.
The certificates required by employers vary according to which project they are working on and the standards they follow are not always aligned, so it is therefore, important to check with individual employers as to what their requirements may be.
As a general basic entry requirement the following Basic Safety Training is required:
- RUK/GWO Work at Height and Rescue
- RUK/GWO Manual Handling
- RUK/GWO First Aid
- RUK/GWO Fire Awareness
- RUK/GWO Sea Survival/Marine Safety Transfer
We are currently offering this package to all delegates at a special price of just £1269.60.00 including VAT. We can offer this training on a weekly basis, it will take 7 days to complete which can be done on either consecutive dates or split to fit around your schedule.
We also now offer this training from 2 locations in the UK, Newcastle and Grimsby.
The price will be £1378.80 including VAT from Grimsby as we do not have the pool facilities available as yet at this location. The RUK/GWO Sea Survival element will be held in Newcastle; the price quoted will include your transport and overnight stay in Newcastle.
Depending on the employer, the following courses are generally also required:
- OGUK Offshore Medical
- ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport
- AIS Electrical Awareness
- OPITO Combined Rigger and Slinger Banksman Training
- ECITB Confined Space & Rescue (Low, Medium and High risk courses available depending on the area of the turbine/vessel you will be working)
This list is not exhaustive, depending on the part of the industry you intend to work and your current experiences you may wish to complete additional courses.
We hope the above information helps; we are all available to chat with you further anytime should you have any questions.
We aim to try and pull the training together for you to fit in with your time. We do run courses on occasion over the weekend, sometimes evenings, and if we don’t have a course when you need it, we will do our very best to schedule one in.
