BINDT Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) PCN Level 2
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), sometimes referred to as Magnetic Testing (MT), is a category of non-destructive testing (NDT) commonly used to locate surface defects in ferromagnetic materials.
The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) have developed Personnel Certfication in Non-Destructive Testing (PCN) for inspectors, testers and engineers who require a thorough introduction to MPI.
MPI can determine defects on the surface of a material which can be magnitised. Magnetic particles are sprayed onto the material before its energised with a magnetic current. Any defects in the material will disrupt the magnetic particles and contrast paint can be added so the human eye can see the affected area.
Course Overview
BINDT Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) PCN Level 2 provides the comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for magnetic particle testing.
Delegates will inspect ferrous metal welds, castings and forgings for surface defects using magnetic media.
This course is the equivalent of 40 hours of training.
PLEASE NOTE: The price includes examination fee, PCN levy and all course materials, tests and consumables.
Course Objectives
Delegates completing a BINDT Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) PCN Level 2 training course will be able to;
- Understand the basic principles of MPI
- Apply MPI to welds, castings and forgings using a range of magnetising methods
- Write clear and concise inspection procedures and test reports
- Meet the syllabus requirements for PCN Level 2
Course Content
A BINDT Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) PCN Level 2 training course includes;
- MPI principles
- Testing procedures
- Detectability of defects
- Product technology
- Interpretation and reporting
- Control and maintenance checks
Prerequisites
In order to receive a BINDT Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) PCN Level 2 certificate, the minimum required duration of training is:
- Level 1 - 16 hours
- Level 2 - 24 hours (direct to level 2 - 40 hours)
The required duration of training is fulfilled by attending this training course.
In order to recieve a BINDT Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) PCN Level 2 certificate, the minimum duration of work experience is:
- Level 1 - 1 month
- Level 2 - 3 months (direct to level 2 - 4 months)
PLEASE NOTE: The examination may be taken before or after work experience is completed, however the certificate will not be issued until proof of experience is provided. After passing the examination, a results notice is issued by PCN and you then have 24 months to complete the required work experience.
