“No regrets about transferring my skills to the wind sector. It’s been amazing!”

Vehicle mechanic, Kyle Emmerson is swapping cars for wind turbines after successfully changing careers to the fast-growing wind industry with the help of AIS Training.

After leaving school, Kyle from Newcastle, trained as a mechanic and spent six years working for a local North East company. However, having a strong spirit for adventure, Kyle decided to take time out and go travelling around the world with his partner.

Together, Kyle and his now wife, toured Australia, South East Asia and New Zealand for three years working on and off in casual jobs while seeing and enjoying the world.

After returning home, Kyle spent the next couple of years working in a variety of different jobs but when his wife fell pregnant, he decided it was time for a career change. Kyle wanted a job which used his existing skills, embraced his spirit of adventure and yet gave him plenty of quality time off with his wife and child. A friend recommended the wind industry, so Kyle signed up for the GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Package with AIS Training, which provides all the necessary certificates for a wind career.

Within three months of completing his training, Kyle scooped his first wind industry job working in Sweden as a wind technician and has never looked back.

He said: “I’ve absolutely no regrets about transferring my skills to the wind sector - I love it! The shift rotations and nature of the work means you get plenty of time off to spend with family and the job opportunities are plentiful. AIS Training was great.  Everyone was extremely professional and very approachable, and I got loads of tips and advice to help me get that first foot in the door. For anyone thinking about retraining for the wind sector I’d say give it a go. Although you need a bit of bottle to make that first move, it has been well worth it for me and has only taken one work trip to pay for all my training.”
