AIS scooped the title ‘Best welding industry training provider’ at the World Welding Awards 2018 in Birmingham during a glittering ceremony presided over by TV presenter Eamon Holmes.

The company beat off stiff competition from dozens of other training providers to win the award, which involved a gruelling judging process. As well as being dependant on the number of votes from welders working in the sector, AIS had to deliver a comprehensive presentation to the judging panel on the company and what it offers the welding industry.

Over the last three years AIS Training has invested upwards of £1.5m in its welding training provision. As well as investing in new state-of-the-art facilities, AIS Training has expanded its training portfolio to offer coded welding courses, pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships under its "AIS Connect" brand, from basic level up to the highest international industry standards and in all processes including Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Metal Active and Metal Insert Gas (MIG/MAG) and Manual Metal Arc (MMA).

It is also one of only a few places across the UK to have a Zurich-accredited welding surveyor onsite to witness all coded tests meaning it can offer welding training and testing together in one location.

In addition, the company recently unveiled a new underwater welding tank where qualified divers can learn how to weld underwater – a skill used in the sub-sea, marine and oil and gas sectors.

The judges said: "AIS delivers excellent training programmes using the latest technology and current legislation. They are fully aware of future changes which are highlighted to their client base to ensure they are always ahead of the game. AIS has also invested in a new water tank for underwater welder training, alongside their impressive facilities and hotel. This is an organisation determined to make their mark in this sector, providing considerable learner opportunity and a variety of skills training facilities on site."

Dave Brannon, sales manager at AIS, said: “We are delighted to have won this extremely prestigious competition, particularly as it is voted for by people in the welding industry.

“In developing our welding offer, we listened carefully to what companies and individuals need from welding training and apprenticeships creating a unique, ‘one-stop-shop’ which offers bespoke welding solutions across every level and sector. Whether you’re completely new to the industry and have never picked up a welding rod in your life or whether you’re a seasoned pro, AIS provides all the training required to help people become fully competent, highly skilled welding professionals.

“As well as raising standards across the welding industry, our hard-working and dedicated team is helping many people get the skills they need to secure full-time employment. It’s wonderful to have all our efforts acknowledged by our peers.”
