AIS Connect Shortlisted for Apprenticeship Award

Leading offshore manufacturer and training specialist, Advanced Industrial Solutions has been recognised for its outstanding investment in apprentices.

AIS’s Connect division has been shortlisted for the ‘Apprentice Employer Award’ in the North Tyneside Business Awards 2016, organised by the North Tyneside Business Forum. It will now be considered alongside some of the UK’s leading companies including Accenture and iSTAT, for the award. The awards celebrate the huge contribution that businesses make to the local economy and how they make North Tyneside a great place to live, work and visit.

AIS Connect was set up to train young people aged 16-24 and prepare them for industry. It offers a range of traineeship and apprenticeship programmes in construction, engineering and the energy sector.

The business currently trains more than 20,000 workers annually for the offshore, maritime, wind and heavy industry sectors from its 20-acre state-of-the-art training village in North Shields and also has centres in Grimsby and Aberdeen. This investment in skills and career development is an approach that the company also extends to its own staff.

Advanced Industrial Solutions employs 150 people from the local area and currently has seven apprentices. The company’s comprehensive apprenticeship programme gives youngsters a thorough understanding of the business and includes dedicated mentoring and training to help them progress in their chosen career path. Eight former apprentices have gone onto senior positions within the company including client relationship manager and head of online sales.

Company founder Paul Stonebanks said: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted for these awards – particularly in the apprentice category. I started out as an apprentice myself and believe passionately in creating a supportive business environment where young talent can thrive. As well as enabling companies to grow in a cost effective way, a good apprenticeship programme can have a huge impact on the lives of those individuals taking part by providing them with a rewarding career and a clear progression route.

“As a professional training provider to the offshore, maritime, wind and heavy industry sectors, we develop skills and bring out the best in people as part of our day job. But we also practice what we preach and heavily invest in our staff, including apprentices.”

The North Tyneside Business Awards ceremony will take place on 2nd December.
