Leading industrial trainer and manufacturer, AIS today welcomed an oil and gas industry leader to its state-of-the-art industrial training village and manufacturing facility on North Tyneside to showcase its innovative approach to the sector’s current challenges.

Deirdre Michie, chief executive of Oil and Gas UK visited AIS as part of a wider regional tour of companies serving the oil and gas sector in North East England. Local MPs Alan Campbell and Mary Glindon were also present and all were treated to a tour of the 12-acre site.

AIS has been largely cushioned from the impact of a drop in oil price due to massive investment of more than £6.8million in the last 24 months including new centres in Grimsby, Aberdeen and Huddersfield, along with the development of several award-winning new insulation and passive fire protection products. The company’s latest focus is helping young people aged between 16-24 get their first step on the career ladder with AIS Connect traineeship and apprenticeship programmes.

Deirdre Michie, Oil & Gas UK's chief executive, said: "On my second visit to the North East on behalf of Oil & Gas UK I have gained even greater insights into the region as a result of meeting representatives from Advanced Industrial Solutions (AIS) and other supply chain companies. It has been a valuable opportunity to listen to both the challenges experienced and the success achieved by the North East Business  community working in an  area recognised as regional centre of excellence for the UK oil and gas industry.”

AIS head of operations, Paul Attrill said: “We were delighted to welcome such high profile guests to our world-class facilities today. It was a great privilege to show them around our site and share our innovative solutions to industrial challenges.

“Clients in the oil and gas sector are looking for innovative and cost effective solutions and we’ve responded by creating a world-class industrial training village with all the skills training needed for the global energy sector available in one place. Similarly our insulation and passive fire protection products are developed with the end-customer in mind – for example last year we launched the world’s thinnest industrial insulation system to reduce shipping and installation costs. Set against the oil and gas industry’s new cost-saving landscape we believe our approach is beneficial to all.”
