RAY RICHARDSON
After swapping his military job for a high-flying wind industry career, former Royal Marine, Ray Richardson chooses 3t Training Services for all of his mandatory GWO training.
33-year-old Ray from Whitley Bay was a mechanical engineer in the Royal Marines for 13 years, travelling all over the world with tours to Afghanistan and Malaysia. When he left the military in 2015, Ray was keen to forge a new career in the fast-growing wind industry and worked in a variety of temporary positions as a heavy goods driver and mechanical engineer while looking for the right job to come up.
Ray eventually secured his first wind job in 2016 as a wind turbine technician installing onshore turbines. Since then, he has worked on a variety of onshore and offshore wind farms across Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the UK. Ray is now self-employed and loves the flexibility of being able to spend time with his two boys.
Ray said: “I love working in the wind sector. The lifestyle suits me down to the ground as it’s a bit like being in the military, spending spells away from home but also having quality time off afterwards.
