People working in the fabric maintenance industry will be able to get the mandatory qualifications they need in Scotland thanks to AIS Training's sister company, Survivex.

Survivex, part of the 3T Energy Group, has been accredited to run the Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS) following an extensive approval process.

The ICATS qualification is mandatory for those working in fabric maintenance for the highways and railways industries and is also widely recognised by many sectors including petrochemical, defence and local authorities.

Onshore fabric maintenance is a highly-prized skill offering many potential employment opportunities. According to data from AMA Research’s ‘Highway Maintenance Market Report 2017-2021’, the UK highways maintenance market was worth more than £10b in 2017 and within the last financial year the Scottish government budgeted more than £820m to spend on motorways and trunk roads. The railway industry is similarly large with more than 190,000 people employed across the UK.

The five-day ICATS course at Survivex is designed for both experienced professionals and those new to the industry. As well as covering health and safety and quality control, the course teaches delegates how to prepare industrial surfaces such as bridges and rail tracks for specialist coatings and how to apply an extensive variety of paint types.

The qualification is the latest to be added to Survivex’s extensive portfolio, which now totals almost 300 industry-accredited skills courses in sectors such as oil and gas, marine and heavy industry.

Chris Bews, business development manager at Survivex, said: “We are delighted to offer this essential course for those working in the onshore fabric maintenance industry. The fact that we sailed through the audit process is testament to both the high quality of our facilities and our instruction staff.

“With most onshore sectors recognising the ICATS qualification, this is a sizeable new market for us to service. We’re now committed to developing ‘work-ready’ coatings personnel who meet the needs of employers across these many sectors.”

Steve Barke, managing director of ICATS said “We are delighted to have Survivex as one of our leading training providers, we believe with their extensive expertise in training we will make a step-change in the level of competence in our industry in Scotland”.

The first ICATS course is scheduled to run at Survivex on 22nd April and is available to BOOK NOW >>
